Do As I Say, Not As I Do

Last week I did a terrible thing. I weakened my immune system. Not only that, I had memory problems, I was moody, and probably played with my borderline diabetes. How could I have done all of these things in one week? Easy. I was sleep deprived last week.  According to my FitBit, one night I only got 4 hours and 51 minutes of sleep. (not good.)

I heard there was beautiful weather this past weekend, but I wouldn’t know. I spent the weekend on the sofa – sleeping and sick.

A UK man became paralyzed after a cycling accident and spent 4 years raising 22,000 pounds to pay for a pioneering treatment that might help him walk again. However, upon hearing about a disabled boy needing surgery (that stood a better chance of success), he donated all the money to him instead.

Go To Class

This morning I had the opportunity to visit Dr. Corcoran’s class. I was expecting to see 75 bright and happy faces but to my surprise there were maybe 20 people in the class. When I asked where everyone was I was shocked to learn that “this is it for a Friday.”  Where are you people? This is your education and you cannot get it if you don’t show up.

Someone is paying for your education. Real money. It might be you; it might be your parents, or a benefactor. But someone is paying real money. By not taking advantage of this opportunity, you are disrespecting that person.

I just did the math. For an instate student taking 15 credit hours, each class is $29.73. While doing this math I talked with a student who at best guess indicated he missed 30 classes. That’s $891.79 ($2,080.64 for out of state). Real money, people! This is not chump change.

Can't Find My Focus

What to do when you have stuff to do but you have no drive or you've lost the ability to focus? Typically I organize or clean my desk then dive into what needs to be done. But I did that yesterday! An internet search on regaining your focus proved futile and I ended up arguing with the suggestions. One site suggested 1) incorporate discipline … that’s the problem! 2) give your brain a break … again, it’s had a break it needs to get back to work & 3) regulate your mood … easy for you to say.

A nap. I can take a nap and things will be better when I wake.

MEPS Relay for Life

Cancer has touched many of us all in some way, and it's time to fight back by raising funds, as well as walking in our local American Cancer Society Relay For Life event.  MEPS has a goal to raise $325. If every person in MSE major donated just $1, we would reach our goal in no time!  All donations, large or small will help to make a difference!  Let's show what a great organization we are and give BACK!

Donations can be made in the Donation box located in the Advising Office or on line http://main.acsevents.org/goto/MEPSRelay.
