Back To The Gym For Me

As everyone knows, I stopped going to the gym back in November after I hurt my knee. During the time before my surgery I was not myself, physically or emotionally. I realize it was just a knee but I felt incomplete in a way because I wasn’t myself. I didn’t feel me because I couldn’t do the things I normally did.

Recently, I saw this video (https://youtu.be/GL5WB-1lmnU) about this dog that was born with deformed front legs. This video immediately made me examine how I felt about myself. This puppy just wants to play and enjoy. This puppy doesn’t left his disability stop him. Why was I letting my temporary knee pain impact me?

Then I saw this video (https://youtu.be/uRmoowIN8aY) that kicked my as*. I have no excuse. I need to stop making excuses and get to work. When you want something don’t make excuses – go and get it.

The Easter Bunny stopped by the Advising Office over the weekend. When you stop by pick out your Easter Egg.

Reminder that I will be holding after-hour advising tonight from 5-7 – you must be signed in by 6:30.

As spring has sprung the weather will soon change – maybe, we hope.  When it does, you will be tempted to skip class to bask in the sunshine. Don’t do this. Do not skip class because it’s nice outside. Do not skip class because you don’t feel like getting out of bed. Do not skip class because it’s windy outside.  Do not skip.

Not only are you losing the educational experience that you are here to gain but you are losing financially.

White Rabbit

The Blog is late – I know. This bothers me more than you know; crawling under my skin constantly reminding me that I haven’t completed this task yet. Let me share this and maybe you will understand my physical discomfort! My dad & both my grandfathers were in the service – it has been ingrained in me that if I am not 10 minutes early I’m 5 minutes late. So the fact that this blog is 2 days late is killing me. I had to take a deep breath and accept the fact that it would be late because once I prioritize my responsibilities – this did not come first.

MSE Undergrad and Course request come first!

As you know, this is a required meeting time for everyone NOT graduating. If you haven’t done so – please schedule your course request meeting now. To accommodate everyone, I will hold after-hours advising on Monday (3/30) from 5-7, first come first served. You must be signed in my 6:30.

Please be patient, as I will respond to your email. Yesterday morning, I knocked out 30 of 88. Since I received another 40. I will address your email in the order it was received.

Job Advice for New Grads: Be Flexible and Mind Your Manners
As more colleges take steps to improve career education for their students, we wanted to find out what kinds of skills employers expect from college graduates. We asked current and former chief learning officers, who have led training efforts in the corporate and nonprofit worlds, the following question: "If you could persuade colleges to do one more thing to prepare students for the workplace, what would it be?"

Here’s what they told us.

The count down continues.

Welcome back, I hope you had a nice relaxing spring break. I trust that you are rejuvenated and ready to tackle the remaining 37 days of classes? Yep, only 37 days of classes left. Holy jeepers batman, where did the time go?

As everyone knows, back in the fall Turner St was paved and they have yet to put in a crosswalk.  I’m on it! Until this is resolved, please continue to be cautious as you cross Turner St.

Due to several circumstances (my past and future absence) the application deadline for the MSE Ambassador program has been extended to Friday, March 27. If you are interested please let me know.

This week I will be in the office today & tomorrow only. I will be traveling to Richmond for an adviser’s conference the remainder of the week. As such, I will have walk-in hours only these two days. Scheduled appointments will resume next week with COURSE REQUEST.  This is a required meeting time for everyone who is not graduating in May. Please schedule your appointment now using Scholar.

March Winds

As we all know, along with March Madness we get Women’s History Month – two things that have nothing to do with each other. As I know nothing about basketball, I will spend the next few minutes reviewing Women’s History Month.  Actually, no I won’t. I will say that the equality of women has come a long way and still has a long way to go. But what I’m looking forward to is a day when we no longer have days or months dedicated to someone or a group of people. I’m looking forward to a time when we no longer celebrate the “first woman to do _____” or the “first black man (or woman) to do ______.” To me that will be an amazing day.
