Today is an amazing day; it is Groundhog Day. What
a wonderful day. A day where a rodent tells the forecast. Also a
reminder of a great movie. I know some people don’t like this
movie – I disagree. Yes, Phil is living the same day over and
over again while others around him are unaware. He is stuck in
this day until he gets it right. Then he gets to live February 3rd. That both sucks and is pretty damn cool. Pretty
cool in the way that Phil gets a real life do-over till he got it
right. Sucks in that he was the only one experiencing it. Things
we can take away from this movie … 1) be glad we are not Phil, 2)
groundhogs are cute, 3) anytime is a good time for flapjacks,
& 4) we don’t have to live the same day over and over to
learn from our mistakes.
Find out as
much as possible about the company’s culture. The company

sources for insider information.
Prepare a list of
questions regarding the position,
department and company. Bring it with you.
Be
prepared to clearly state how your experience matches
each job requirement.
Differentiate
yourself. Why are you the best candidate for the
position?
Be prepared to
describe how you’ll add value to the team, department
and company.
Consider
conducting a mock interview with a friend or family
member.
Don’t wear
cologne or perfume.
Dress
conservatively for the interview. Select
your clothes the night before. Make sure your clothes and
shoes are in impeccable condition. This preparation not
only makes an excellent first impression, it also boosts
your confidence. Men: Get a trim and be clean-shaven.
Women: File your nails. Excessively long and flamboyantly
painted fingernails are distracting and unprofessional.
Plan to arrive
at least 30 minutes early so you’re not rushed or
late due to unexpected traffic delays. This will give you
ample time to breathe deeply, calm down and compose
yourself.
If you need to
reschedule your appointment, call as early as
possible. Companies appreciate advanced notice of
schedule changes and will do their best to provide you the
same courtesy.
